I’m Alex. Founder of AKC Pilates.

I love to move. I’ve been moving my body since I realised I had legs and haven’t stopped since. My love of dance started at an early age and I spent most of my teenage years in a studio, expressing myself through movement, pushing my body to its limits and getting to know the weird and wonderful ways that it worked. I learnt what it was capable of, how to be kind to it (an ongoing practice) and I discovered just how transformative movement could be for both body and mind. And THAT is what I want to share with you. 

I may sound like a guru but I’ve been fortunate enough to explore my body through exposure to abundant movement styles, diverse choreographers and companies and find ways of moving that work best for me. I began my Pilates journey because I fractured my spine in my very early 20s. It was additional support to a dedicated rehab program and it changed everything. Pilates was a way to combat injury and keep my body moving and I and haven’t looked back for well over a decade.

With over twenty years of personal movement practice under my belt, seven years teaching dance for adults and children, qualifications and a decade of combined experience teaching barre fitness, reformer and mat pilates, I know I can help you experience the joy of movement too. Every body is different. The approach to movement needs to be different and fit in with you and your body. And that service is hard to find. Lucky I care so damn much about it and have made it my primary offering.
